As of March 1st, 493 families were on our community’s waitlist for emergency housing with some waiting since last May. The reality is dire – 8,000 Wake County children are projected to experience homelessness this year.

Telling families on the waitlist to sit tight - help will be on the way eventually - shouldn’t be an option. Home can’t wait for children and their families. Please make a donation to Families Together to help us do everything possible to end the waitlist.

 
 
 

Rent Soars ... Homelessness Surges

Rental costs are up 52% over the past five years, with the average fair market rent skyrocketing to $1,646 a month. This demands an overwhelming 125-hour work week at a $10 hourly wage just to make ends meet.

The consequence? Families are being displaced with nowhere to go. Wake County homelessness doubled between 2020 and 2022 and increased 67% in just one year.

Families Together has responded by tripling the capacity of our Emergency Shelter, moving families to permanent housing through a blend of housing solutions, fostering strategic collaborations, and providing holistic support to entire families.

  • Creating and sustaining shelter beds – expanding our unique family shelter from 36 to 86 beds.

  • Changing a child’s life – establishing a home and creating a lasting, multi-generational impact.

  • Utilizing funds wisely – investing in a Platinum-rated (GuideStar), high-impact organization.

  • Leveraging strategic partnerships – optimizing our housing expertise through creative collaboration.

  • Reaching more families – offering emergency housing and ongoing holistic support to 225 families this year.

There are many ways you can partner with Families Together to make a lasting impact in the community and put an end to the waitlist:

  • Give a financial donation! *A gift has 3x the Impact on our Challenge Match Day: Tuesday, April 23!*

    • $25 gives a child a night of sleep in a safe bed.

    • $180 pays for 2 nights of emergency housing.

    • $300 provides a family with financial empowerment and employment support.

  • Provide in-kind donations of linens, cleaning supplies, etc

  • Share our story!

We are so excited to announce that - thanks to TWENTY-TWO generous match funders - we have an incredible challenge match fund of $88,000!

This means your donation on Tuesday, April 23rd will have TRIPLE the impact and help more families get off the waitlist and into stable housing. Your donation of $25 will triple to $75, $50 to $150, $200 turns to $600, $1,000 turns to $3,000.
